Support Repeal of all MA Firearms Licensing Laws

As adopted at LAMA July 2019 Convention:

Resolution:

WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party asserts that all individuals have the right to self-defense, and that defense of individual rights against aggression is a legitimate use of force, where this is codified in the Platform of the Libertarian Party which states “We affirm the individual right recognized by the Second Amendment to keep and bear arms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for exercising their rights of self-defense.”, and we condemn government in restricting these rights, where the Platform states “We oppose all laws at any level of government restricting, registering, or monitoring the ownership, manufacture, or transfer of firearms or ammunition”;

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has enacted laws which regulate and restrict the possession of firearms, in a manner not uniform or consistent within the state but at the discretion of the local authority, and enacted arbitrary lists of acceptable firearms under the guise of public safety and at the opinion of the attorney general, and modified existing law without debate or by constitutional legislative processes;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts supports the repeal of all existing firearms licensing laws and restrictions on firearm ownership in the Commonwealth, and that the Party condemns any restrictions on any individual’s right to bear arms where due process has not been followed.

Oppose Surveillance Systems

As adopted at LAMA July 2019 Convention:

Resolution:

WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party asserts that all individuals have the right to exercise sole dominion over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal rights of others; and that they should be free to live their lives free from government oversight and interference, and has codified this principle in the Platform of the Libertarian Party, which states “Libertarians advocate individual privacy and government transparency. We are committed to ending government’s practice of spying on everyone.”

WHEREAS, the government has instituted policies of surveillance by implementing cameras and recording devices in public spaces to collect video documentation on individuals without their consent or without legal warrants; and are actively seeking to implement facial recognition technologies to match individuals in these recordings to records maintained in other government data systems .

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts opposes the use of government surveillance and collection of data on individuals obtained without a legal warrant, and opposes the use of facial recognition technologies; and that the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts applauds the Somerville City Council for passing a ban on the use of facial recognition technology in police investigations and public surveillance programs.

Oppose Conversion Therapy

As adopted by LAMA State Committee, June 2019.

Resolution:

WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party asserts that all individuals have the right

in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere
with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose;

WHEREAS, although children have not reached sufficient maturity to be the
full custodian of their rights which are temporarily entrusted to their
parents or guardians, their rights to bodily integrity and intimate
personal identification, are inalienable and coerced action that would
fundamentally deny these rights is abusive;

identity which does not conform to traditional expectations; and the rights
to gender and sexual identity are fundamental rights;

WHEREAS, this
conversion therapy has its roots in unethical treatment used since the 70's
in issues such as drug use, psychiatric disorders, and learning

starvation, and isolation as "treatment techniques", which in any other
area are considered torture or cruel and unusual punishment;

WHEREAS,
children are often subjected to this type of therapy against their will,
even by loving and well-intentioned parents who are unaware that the
methods used in conversion therapy are extremely forceful and abusive, and
that any therapy similar to this has been shown to result in suicide
attempts by 20% of these patients: a five-fold increase in the risk of
suicide attempts compared to other teens;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that
the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts opposes so-called conversion therapy as fraudulent
and abusive, and opposes its protection or funding by federal or state
governments;
